Nutritionist recently arrived at a school unit? Some tips from our experts to make nutritional education easier for little ones :)

It is very important to offer healthy and nutritious meals to students at lunch time in schools. Ensuring students have access to nutritious food options can have a positive impact on their overall health and well-being. In addition to choosing healthy, natural foods and equipment that provides healthy cooking with little nutritional loss, here are some valuable tips and recommendations for creating a nutritious experience at school:Include a variety of fruits and vegetables: Be sure to offer a diverse selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Including options such as sliced apples, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, and mixed greens salad will provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber to support students' overall health.Serve whole grains: Opt for whole-grain breads, wraps or pasta instead of refined grains. Whole grains are rich in fiber and provide sustained energy throughout the day. Consider offering whole grain options for sandwiches, wraps and sides like brown rice or quinoa.Incorporate lean proteins: Include lean protein sources in your lunchtime meals to promote muscle growth and repair. Offer options like grilled chicken, turkey, tofu or vegetables like lentils or chickpeas. These protein sources are low in saturated fat and provide essential amino acids.

Limit processed foods and sugary foods: Minimize the availability of processed foods such as chips, cookies and sugary drinks. In private institutions it can be a big challenge, but it is worth it. These items often lack nutritional value and can contribute to energy crashes and poor concentration. Instead, offer healthier alternatives like baked chips, homemade granola bars, or water flavored with fresh fruit.Encourage hydration: Make water easily accessible and encourage students to drink plenty throughout the day. Adequate hydration is essential for maintaining cognitive function, concentration and overall health. Consider offering water infused with citrus slices or herbs for additional flavor.Involve students in menu planning: Involve students in the menu planning process to increase their interest and enthusiasm about healthy eating. Allow them to provide information about the types of foods they like and encourage them to suggest nutritious alternatives to their favorite meals.Educate students about nutrition: Use lunchtime as an opportunity to educate students about the importance of healthy eating. Provide nutrition education materials, host workshops, or engage nutrition professionals to teach students how to make balanced food choices.

Accommodate dietary restrictions: Be aware of students with dietary restrictions or allergies. Offer alternative options for people with specific needs, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegetarian/vegan options. Ensure that students with dietary restrictions have equal access to nutritious and satisfying meals.

By implementing these tips, school-based nutritionists can create a lunch environment that promotes healthy eating habits, supports optimal nutrition, and contributes to students' overall well-being.
